REGN20934 is a monoclonal antibody developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of obesity and overweight. It acts as an antagonist of GPR75 (G protein-coupled receptor 75), a target identified through large-scale exome sequencing by the Regeneron Genetics Center. Genetic studies revealed that individuals with loss-of-function variants in the GPR75 gene have a significantly lower body mass index (BMI) and a 54% reduced risk of obesity compared to those without the variants. REGN20934 is designed to mimic this protective genetic effect by inhibiting GPR75 signaling. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical development to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in adult participants with overweight or obesity.
