Overview

REGN22044 is a monoclonal antibody developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals that targets G protein-coupled receptor 151 (GPR151). GPR151 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor predominantly expressed in the habenula, a brain region involved in reward processing and metabolic regulation. Genetic research conducted by the Regeneron Genetics Center identified that rare loss-of-function variants in the GPR151 gene are associated with significantly lower body mass index (BMI) and a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. REGN22044 is designed to inhibit GPR151 signaling, thereby mimicking the protective effects of these genetic variants to treat obesity and related metabolic disorders. The drug is currently in early-stage clinical development, with Phase 1 trials evaluating its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy adult participants.
