regular insulin

Regular insulin is a short-acting recombinant human insulin used to regulate glucose metabolism. In the clinical trial conducted by Hospital Sao Domingos (NCT01268644), intensive insulin therapy is utilized as a protocol for tight glycemic control in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The therapy involves continuous intravenous infusion of regular insulin, adjusted via an algorithm to maintain blood glucose levels between 80 and 120 mg/dl. The goal of this intervention is to prevent hyperglycemia-induced secondary brain injury and improve functional outcomes and mortality rates in the acute post-stroke period.
