Regulax

Regulax is a brand of stimulant laxatives developed and marketed by the German pharmaceutical company Krewel Meuselbach. The product line is primarily known for its herbal formulation, **Regulax Abführ-Würfel** (laxative cubes), which contains sennosides derived from Senna leaves and fruits. These sennosides act as prodrugs that are metabolized by colonic bacteria into active rheinanthrones. These active metabolites stimulate the myenteric plexus to increase colonic motility (peristalsis) and inhibit water and electrolyte reabsorption by modulating the activity of the Na+/K+-ATPase pump and downregulating aquaporin 3 channels. Another variant, **Regulax Picosulfat**, utilizes sodium picosulfate, which is similarly activated by bacterial enzymes in the gut to exert a stimulant effect. Regulax is indicated for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation and is available as an over-the-counter (OTC) medication.
