Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rehmannia leaf total glycosides capsule is a Chinese patent medicine (TCM) derived from the leaves of *Rehmannia glutinosa* Libosch. It is primarily utilized in China for the treatment of chronic kidney diseases, including chronic glomerulonephritis and diabetic nephropathy. The pharmacological profile of the total glycosides extract involves potent anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-fibrotic activities. Specifically, it has been shown to inhibit the expression of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), which helps to mitigate podocyte injury and glomerular sclerosis, thereby reducing proteinuria. In clinical practice and research, it is often evaluated as an adjunctive therapy to standard Western treatments such as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) like valsartan.
