Overview

Rejuvesol is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution composed of sodium pyruvate, inosine, adenine, dibasic sodium phosphate, and monobasic sodium phosphate in water for injection. It is designed exclusively for the extracorporeal rejuvenation of stored red blood cell (RBC) concentrates prior to transfusion. Rejuvesol restores depleted levels of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) in RBCs that have been stored for more than 14 days at 1–6°C. These molecules are critical for maintaining RBC membrane integrity and flexibility (ATP), as well as facilitating oxygen release from hemoglobin to tissues (2,3-DPG). By restoring these levels to those found in fresh blood, Rejuvesol improves the functional capacity of stored RBCs and enhances their effectiveness in oxygen delivery after transfusion. The product is not intended for direct administration to humans but must be mixed with red blood cells before transfusion[1][2][3][6][7].
