Drug intelligence / Profile preview
REL-1028 (BuTab) is a novel, oral, enteric-coated formulation of **buprenorphine**, an opioid analgesic used to treat chronic pain and opioid dependence. Unlike standard sublingual buprenorphine formulations, REL-1028 is designed for **oral gastrointestinal absorption** with a modified release profile, aiming to reach therapeutic plasma levels safely and effectively through the oral route. At present, there are no commercially available oral buprenorphine formulations that allow for gastrointestinal absorption. REL-1028 is developed by Relmada Therapeutics, with clinical studies focusing on its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy subjects. The formulation is being considered for both chronic pain and opioid dependence, with planned studies to compare its profile to existing sublingual buprenorphine products, with the goal of regulatory approval for these indications[1][2][5][13][17].
