Relaxane is a herbal medicinal product developed by Max Zeller Söhne (Zeller Medical AG). It is a fixed-dose combination containing extracts of butterbur (*Petasites hybridus*), valerian root (*Valeriana officinalis*), passionflower (*Passiflora incarnata*), and lemon balm (*Melissa officinalis*). It is indicated for the treatment of nervous tension, restlessness, anxiety, and associated symptoms such as gastrointestinal spasms or sleep disturbances. The mechanism of action involves the synergistic effects of its components, primarily modulating the GABAergic system to provide sedative and anxiolytic effects. Specifically, valerian and passionflower extracts are thought to act as positive allosteric modulators of GABA-A receptors, while lemon balm inhibits GABA transaminase, thereby increasing GABA levels in the brain. Butterbur extracts contribute spasmolytic properties, potentially through the inhibition of leukotriene synthesis and calcium channel modulation.
