Overview
**RELEEV** is a Merix Pharmaceutical over-the-counter topical liquid for treatment of cold sores and fever blisters, including associated pain, tingling, itching, and burning. The current U.S. OTC drug label identifies benzalkonium chloride 0.13% as the sole active ingredient; it functions as a topical antimicrobial antiseptic that can help cleanse and dry lesions. The proprietary VIRACEA botanical formulation, which includes Echinacea purpurea extract, is described in product marketing but is listed among inactive ingredients on the current label. RELEEV is applied directly to affected external lesions and may also be used on sores inside the mouth.
