Relenopride is a small molecule drug developed as a selective serotonin 4 (5-HT4) receptor agonist, primarily investigated for its prokinetic effects on gastrointestinal motility. It acts by stimulating 5-HT4 receptors in the gut, thereby enhancing colonic and gastric motility and accelerating gastric emptying. Relenopride has been studied in phase II clinical trials for chronic idiopathic constipation, functional constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), where it demonstrated efficacy in improving bowel function with a favorable safety profile. More recently, it has also been under investigation for rare neurological disorders. The drug was originally developed by SK Biopharmaceuticals and its affiliate SK Life Science[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
