Relert (also known as TP-122) is a first-in-class, multi-target small molecule being developed by Technophage for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI). The drug is designed to address the complex inhibitory environment that prevents nerve regeneration following traumatic injury. Its mechanism of action involves the dual inhibition of Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). By inhibiting ROCK, Relert promotes neurite outgrowth and axonal regeneration, while its inhibition of MMP-9 helps to modulate the inflammatory response and reduce secondary tissue damage. This combined neuroregenerative and neuroprotective approach is intended to improve functional outcomes for patients with SCI. Relert is currently in the early stages of development, following successful preclinical studies that demonstrated its potential to enhance functional recovery.
