Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Relmapirazin (MB-102) is an exogenous, non-radioactive, non-iodinated fluorescent pyrazine-based tracer agent designed for the real-time, point-of-care measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Originally originated by Mallinckrodt and subsequently developed by MediBeacon, relmapirazin is administered intravenously and is cleared from the body exclusively by the kidneys via glomerular filtration, exhibiting negligible protein binding, metabolism, or tubular secretion. When used in conjunction with the MediBeacon Transdermal GFR System (TGFR), which includes an optical skin sensor and monitor, the clearance rate of relmapirazin is measured non-invasively through the skin by tracking the decay of its fluorescence over time. This system provides a direct, real-time assessment of kidney function at the bedside, eliminating the need for blood draws, urine collection, or estimated GFR (eGFR) equations.
