REM-01 is an allogeneic induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived corneal epithelial cell sheet developed by RAYMEI Inc. for the treatment of moderate to severe limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). LSCD is a condition characterized by the loss or dysfunction of stem cells in the limbus, which leads to corneal conjunctivalization, scarring, and significant vision loss. REM-01 is produced by differentiating allogeneic iPSCs into corneal epithelial cells, which are then cultured into a transplantable sheet format. This regenerative medicine approach aims to reconstruct the corneal surface and restore visual function without the need for autologous tissue or long-term immunosuppression typically required for allogeneic tissue transplants. A Phase 2 clinical trial (jRCT2053260029) is currently evaluating the safety and efficacy of REM-01 transplantation in patients in Japan.
