Overview

Remestemcel-L (Prochymal) is an allogeneic, bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy developed by Mesoblast (originally by Osiris Therapeutics). It consists of ex vivo cultured human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) obtained from healthy adult volunteer donors. These cells possess potent immunomodulatory properties, including the ability to home to sites of tissue injury and inflammation, suppress T-lymphocyte proliferation, and reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Remestemcel-L is primarily indicated for the treatment of steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) and has been investigated for other inflammatory conditions such as Crohn's disease and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). It is administered via intravenous infusion.
