Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Remifemin PLUS is a herbal combination product developed by Schaper & Brümmer for the management of menopausal complaints, particularly those accompanied by psychological symptoms such as mood swings, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. It contains standardized extracts of *Cimicifuga racemosa* (black cohosh) and *Hypericum perforatum* (St. John's Wort). The *Cimicifuga* extract is used to alleviate vasomotor symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats, while the St. John's Wort extract provides antidepressant and anxiolytic effects by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This phytotherapeutic agent is widely used as a non-hormonal alternative to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and is marketed as an over-the-counter (OTC) herbal medicine.
