Overview

Remogliflozin etabonate is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor developed as an oral antidiabetic agent to improve glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It acts by blocking renal glucose reabsorption, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion and reducing blood glucose independently of insulin action. When combined with insulin, the combination targets both insulin-dependent mechanisms (via exogenous insulin administration) and insulin-independent glycemic lowering (via SGLT2 inhibition with remogliflozin etabonate). This combination has been studied in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes as adjunctive therapy to improve glycemic control, with studies indicating that the addition of remogliflozin etabonate to basal and prandial insulin can further blunt postprandial glucose excursions and improve overall glycemic control.
