Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RemoPro is a novel prodrug of treprostinil being developed by United Therapeutics for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It is specifically designed for subcutaneous administration to deliver therapeutic levels of treprostinil while minimizing the significant infusion site pain typically associated with current subcutaneous treprostinil therapies (such as Remodulin). The drug is engineered to be inactive at the site of administration and is converted into active treprostinil in the bloodstream, thereby avoiding the activation of local pain receptors. Treprostinil itself is a synthetic analogue of prostacyclin (PGI2) that promotes vasodilation of the pulmonary and systemic arterial vascular beds and inhibits platelet aggregation by acting as an agonist at the prostacyclin (IP) receptor.
