Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Remoxy is an investigational, extended-release oral formulation of oxycodone designed for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid treatment when alternative options are inadequate. It features a unique high-viscosity gel capsule formulation with physical and chemical properties intended to deter common methods of abuse, such as cutting, grating, injection, or rapid extraction. The formulation resists dose-dumping in the presence of alcohol and manipulation by heat or solvents. Clinical studies demonstrated that Remoxy provides 12-hour pain relief and has a safety profile consistent with other extended-release oxycodone products. Despite multiple development efforts and clinical trials confirming efficacy in chronic pain (notably osteoarthritis), it has not received FDA approval due to concerns about benefit-risk balance[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
