Overview

Renagliptan is a small molecule dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. By inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, renagliptan prevents the degradation of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This leads to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, effectively lowering blood glucose levels. It was approved by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in June 2023 and is marketed under the brand name Ruixin.
