Overview

Renamezin is a capsule-type oral spherical adsorptive carbon developed to lower indoxyl sulfate levels in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). It works by adsorbing indole and its precursors in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing the intestinal absorption of indole and decreasing serum concentrations of indoxyl sulfate, a uremic toxin implicated in CKD progression. The drug is made from furan resin, which provides greater compression strength compared to earlier products like Kremezin (AST-120), and aims to improve patient compliance due to its capsule formulation. Renamezin has been shown to attenuate renal function decline and improve symptoms of uremia in CKD patients. Clinical studies indicate it can be used safely for this purpose, with gastrointestinal disorders being the most common adverse events[1][2][4].
