RenBio is developing an ultra long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist for the treatment of obesity using its proprietary DNA-based 'Make Your Own' (MYO) Technology platform. This gene therapy approach utilizes a DNA plasmid encoding a GLP-1 receptor agonist protein, which is delivered via injection followed by electrical pulses (electroporation) to facilitate cellular uptake. Once inside the host cells, the DNA is transcribed and translated, effectively turning the body's own cells into 'protein factories' that provide sustained release of the therapeutic agonist. Preclinical studies in diet-induced obesity models have demonstrated that a single administration can achieve sustained weight loss for over one year, positioning the therapy as a potential once-yearly treatment for obesity.
