Overview
Renphron is a recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) marketed by PlasoRon Biotech. It functions as an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) by mimicking the biological activity of endogenous erythropoietin, a glycoprotein hormone primarily produced by the kidneys. Renphron acts as an agonist of the erythropoietin receptor (EPO-R) located on the surface of erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow. Binding to this receptor stimulates the proliferation, maturation, and differentiation of these progenitors into mature red blood cells, thereby increasing hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD), including patients on dialysis and those not requiring dialysis, to reduce the need for red blood cell transfusions.
