Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Renshen Zhuye decoction (RZD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula primarily composed of Ginseng (Renshen) and Bamboo leaf (Zhuye). Historically utilized for the treatment of diabetes, RZD is currently being investigated for its potential to ameliorate high-fat diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of gut microbiota composition and function, which leads to improved intestinal barrier integrity (via increased expression of tight junction proteins such as Occludin) and reduced systemic and intestinal inflammation. These changes contribute to enhanced glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity, and metabolic homeostasis in preclinical models.
