Overview
RenuGel is a carboxymethylcellulose-based hydrogel used as an injectable bulking agent for vocal fold augmentation. In patients with essential voice tremor (EVT), the gel is injected into the vocal cords to increase glottic resistance and provide mechanical stabilization, which helps to dampen the involuntary oscillations of the laryngeal muscles that cause voice instability. This treatment approach, known as injection augmentation, is being evaluated as a potential alternative or complementary therapy to botulinum toxin injections for managing voice disorders characterized by glottic insufficiency and tremor.
