Overview

Repaglinide is an oral antihyperglycemic agent used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to the meglitinide class of short-acting insulin secretagogues and works by binding to β cells of the pancreas to stimulate insulin release. This action induces an early insulin response to meals and decreases postprandial blood glucose levels. Repaglinide should be taken before meals and is not effective for patients with type 1 diabetes or those requiring insulin therapy[1][3][5]. The drug was developed for non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and may cause hypoglycemia due to its mechanism but generally has a lower risk compared to sulfonylureas[5]. **Developers:** Novo Nordisk
