Overview

Rephalysin C is an oral immunostimulant medication developed and manufactured by the German company Repha. It is a combination product consisting of a bacterial lysate derived from *Escherichia coli* and Vitamin C (ascorbic acid). The drug is primarily indicated for strengthening the body's immune defenses, particularly in individuals prone to recurrent infections of the respiratory and urinary tracts. The mechanism of action involves the stimulation of the non-specific immune system; the bacterial lysates act as antigens that activate Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRRs), such as Toll-like receptors, on immune cells like macrophages and dendritic cells. This activation enhances the body's innate immune response and prepares the adaptive immune system for potential pathogens. Vitamin C is included to support various cellular functions of both the innate and adaptive immune systems and to provide antioxidant protection against oxidative stress during infection.
