Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The replicon RNA influenza vaccine is a self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) candidate being developed through a collaborative research agreement between the **BIKEN Foundation** (Research Institute for Microbial Diseases), **VLP Therapeutics Japan**, and **Denka**. The vaccine utilizes a replicon platform, which is designed to express influenza antigens (typically hemagglutinin) at high levels while requiring a lower dose than conventional mRNA vaccines due to its ability to self-replicate within host cells. The program is currently in preclinical development for the prevention of seasonal influenza, with a collaborative agreement signed in September 2023 to leverage BIKEN's vaccine expertise, VLP Therapeutics' saRNA technology, and Denka's manufacturing capabilities.
