The vaccine utilizes a replicon platform, which is designed to express influenza antigens (typically hemagglutinin) at high levels while requiring a lower dose than conventional mRNA vaccines due to its ability to self-replicate within host cells. The program is currently in preclinical development for the prevention of seasonal influenza, with a collaborative agreement signed in September 2023 to leverage BIKEN's vaccine expertise, VLP Therapeutics' saRNA technology, and Denka's manufacturing capabilities.
