The replikin-based influenza vaccine is a synthetic peptide-based biologic developed by Replikins Ltd and BioRadar UK. It utilizes "replikin" peptides—short, conserved amino acid sequences identified in the hemagglutinin (H5) and PB1 gene regions of influenza viruses that correlate with rapid viral replication. By targeting these conserved sequences, the vaccine aims to provide broad protection against various influenza strains, including highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1). The vaccine is chemically synthesized, allowing for rapid production (approximately seven days), and is stable at room temperature when freeze-dried. Preclinical studies in chickens have demonstrated efficacy against H5N1 when administered via the upper respiratory tract.
