Repository corticotropin injection is a sterile, prolonged-release preparation of the natural form of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), typically derived from porcine pituitary glands and formulated in gelatin. Its mechanism involves stimulating the adrenal cortex to increase endogenous production of cortisol and other glucocorticoids; this results in immunosuppressive effects that reduce inflammation.
