Overview

Reproterol is a short-acting β2-adrenoreceptor agonist used primarily as a bronchodilator for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It acts by stimulating β2-adrenoreceptors in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to increased cyclic AMP (cAMP) production and resulting in relaxation of airway muscles. This mechanism provides rapid relief from bronchospasm. Reproterol is available as an oral inhalation solution, intravenous formulation, and oral tablets. It has also been marketed in fixed combination inhalers with cromoglycate for asthma management[1][4][8]. The drug was patented in 1965 and introduced into medical use in 1977[7].
