Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Resistant starch blend** is a proprietary oral prebiotic dietary-supplement formulation developed by Metagenics for gastrointestinal health in adults with occasional gastrointestinal distress. The blend contains at least 50% resistant starch and combines potato starch, green banana flour, and apple fiber powder, which supplies apple pectin. Resistant starch escapes digestion in the upper gastrointestinal tract and reaches the colon, where it is fermented by resident gut microorganisms. In a randomized clinical study, intake providing approximately 5 g/day of resistant starch improved gastrointestinal symptoms and increasing blend doses reduced diarrhea scores; exploratory microbiome analyses associated intake with *Faecalibacterium* and *Akkermansia* taxa.
