Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Reslizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody (IgG4, kappa) that acts as an interleukin-5 (IL-5) antagonist. It binds with high affinity to IL-5, a cytokine responsible for the growth, differentiation, recruitment, activation, and survival of eosinophils. By blocking IL-5 from binding to its receptor on eosinophils, reslizumab reduces the production and survival of these cells and thereby attenuates eosinophilic-driven inflammation. Reslizumab is primarily used as an add-on maintenance treatment for adults with severe eosinophilic asthma who have a history of exacerbations despite current standard therapies[1][3][10]. It is administered intravenously.
