Resorcinol

Resorcinol is an organic compound, a phenol derivative, that has been utilized in dermatological applications for over a century. It functions as a keratolytic agent by promoting the loosening and shedding of the outer layer of the skin, which is beneficial for treating conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis. Additionally, Resorcinol exhibits antiseptic and antimicrobial properties by disrupting the cell walls of bacteria and fungi and denaturing their proteins and enzymes. It also possesses anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects, partly by promoting the formation of prostaglandin E. Resorcinol is found in both over-the-counter and prescription topical treatments for various skin disorders.
