Overview

Resorcinol monoacetate is a small molecule organic compound formed by the esterification of one hydroxy group of resorcinol with acetic acid. It is primarily used as a topical dermatologic agent with keratolytic and antibacterial properties. Its main clinical application is in the treatment of acne, where it helps reduce acne blemishes, pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads by promoting exfoliation (keratolysis) and exerting mild antiseptic effects. Additionally, it has been used for other skin conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and as an ingredient in anti-dandruff and conditioning cosmetic products to improve hair or skin texture[1][4][5][7]. The mechanism of action involves breaking down keratin in the outer layer of the skin (keratolytic effect), which aids desquamation and prevents pore blockage[1]. It also exhibits mild antibacterial activity.
