Overview

ResPen is an investigational overdose rescue medication being developed by Auros Pharma to treat respiratory arrest due to drug overdose. Unlike naloxone (Narcan), which only works for opioid overdoses, ResPen is designed as a universal respiratory stimulant that works by engaging the body's natural breathing circuits to restore respiration in overdose victims, regardless of the type of drug involved—including opioids, synthetic opioids like fentanyl, benzodiazepines, and other medications. The product is being developed as an easy-to-use, self-administered pen device, similar to an EpiPen, that can be used by non-medical personnel including friends, family, and first responders. ResPen is currently in preclinical development, with the developer targeting potential FDA approval by late 2026.
