Respilac

Respilac is a preservative-free ophthalmic solution developed by Sooft Italia Spa for the treatment of moderate dry eye disease (DED), particularly in contact lens wearers. The formulation contains 2.0% lipidure (2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine, or MPC) and 0.1% hypromellose (HPMC). Lipidure is a biomimetic polymer characterized by high biological compatibility and moisture retention, which protects corneal epithelial cells and contact lenses from desiccation damage. Hypromellose serves as a lubricant and viscosity-increasing agent to stabilize the tear film and reduce ocular surface stress. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Respilac is non-inferior to standard HPMC-based artificial tears in improving ocular tolerability and reducing symptoms such as burning, itching, and foreign body sensation.
