Respiratory syncytial virus fusion protein virus-like particle (RSV F-VLP) is an experimental vaccine candidate developed using an enveloped virus-like particle (eVLP) platform. The vaccine consists of virus-like particles that display the RSV fusion (F) protein on their surface, mimicking the structure of the native virus without containing infectious genetic material. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses against the RSV F protein, which is critical for viral entry into host cells. By targeting the F protein, the vaccine aims to prevent respiratory syncytial virus infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as infants and the elderly. The eVLP technology is designed to enhance the immunogenicity of the antigen by presenting it in a highly organized, repetitive array that resembles a real virus particle.
