Overview

The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) mRNA vaccine is a prophylactic biologic candidate developed by Hefei Afana Biotechnology Co., Ltd. designed to prevent infections caused by RSV, particularly in older adults. Utilizing mRNA technology, the vaccine delivers genetic instructions (typically encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles) to host cells to express a stabilized version of the RSV fusion (F) protein. This expression triggers the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies and activate T-cell responses against the virus. The vaccine is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials to assess its safety, immunogenicity, and the persistence of the immune response in individuals aged 50 and older.
