The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) virosome vaccine is a prophylactic biologic candidate developed by Mymetics BV for the prevention of RSV infection and associated lower respiratory tract disease. The vaccine utilizes a virosomal platform, which consists of reconstituted viral envelopes that serve as a delivery vehicle for the RSV fusion (F) and attachment (G) glycoproteins. A key feature of this candidate is its formulation with adjuvants, including monophosphoryl lipid A (MPLA) or 3D-PHAD (a synthetic MPLA) and TLR2 ligands such as Pam3CSK4. These adjuvants are specifically chosen to induce a Th1-biased immune response, which is intended to provide protective immunity while avoiding the Th2-biased response associated with vaccine-enhanced respiratory disease (VERD). The vaccine targets high-risk populations, including infants, young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised adults.
