Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RespireAid (also known as NRICM101 or Qing Guan Yi Hao) is a traditional Chinese herbal formulation developed by the National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine (NRICM) in Taiwan and manufactured by Sun Ten Pharmaceutical. It is a multi-ingredient product composed of ten herbs: *Houttuynia cordata* (fish mint), *Isatis indigotica* (isatis root), *Scutellaria baicalensis* (skullcap root), *Trichosanthes kirilowii* (trichosanthes fruit), *Schizonepeta tenuifolia* (schizonepeta), *Morus alba* (mulberry leaf), *Mentha haplocalyx* (mint), *Magnolia officinalis* (magnolia bark), *Saposhnikovia divaricata* (saposhnikovia root), and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (prepared licorice root). While marketed in the United States as a dietary supplement for respiratory support and lung health, the formula was originally developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to support patients with respiratory infections. Research indicates that the formula may interfere with the binding of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein to the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor and inhibit viral 3C-like protease (3CLpro) activity, thereby supporting the body's immune response and respiratory function.
