Overview

Resveratrol is a natural polyphenolic compound belonging to the stilbenoid group, commonly found in grapes, wine, peanuts, and Japanese knotweed (*Polygonum cuspidatum*). It functions as a calorie restriction mimetic, primarily known for activating **Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)** and **AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)**, which subsequently improves mitochondrial function, enhances insulin sensitivity, and reduces oxidative stress. Resveratrol has been extensively investigated for its cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Clinical development spans various indications including obesity, metabolic syndrome, hypertriglyceridemia, and type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it is used as an excipient/matrix in medical devices, such as the SeQuent Please ReX drug-coated balloon, to facilitate the delivery of antiproliferative drugs.
