This is a combination dietary supplement containing three antioxidant compounds—resveratrol, alpha lipoic acid, and superoxide dismutase. Each component acts as an antioxidant but through different mechanisms: - **Resveratrol** is a polyphenolic compound found in grapes and berries, known for its ability to modulate Sirtuin 1/3 activity, improve mitochondrial function, and reduce oxidative stress. - **Alpha lipoic acid** is both water- and fat-soluble, functioning as a cofactor in mitochondrial energy metabolism and directly scavenging reactive oxygen species. It also helps regenerate other antioxidants. - **Superoxide dismutase (SOD)** is an endogenous enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen, providing cellular protection from oxidative damage. The combination has been studied primarily for its potential benefits in conditions associated with oxidative stress such as diabetic neuropathy[2], sciatica due to herniated discs[1], myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury[4], and radiation-induced tissue injury[5]. The rationale behind combining these agents lies in their complementary mechanisms targeting multiple pathways of oxidative damage.
