Retaine

Retaine (marketed internationally as Cationorm) is a preservative-free, cationic oil-in-water ophthalmic nanoemulsion developed for the treatment of dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). The formulation utilizes the proprietary Novasorb technology, which consists of positively charged oil nanodroplets that electrostatically interact with the negatively charged mucin layer of the ocular surface. This electrostatic attraction increases the residence time of the lubricant on the eye and ensures even spreading across the corneal epithelium. Retaine contains light mineral oil and mineral oil, which target all three layers of the tear film to restore lipid balance, reduce tear evaporation, and provide long-lasting symptomatic relief. It is marketed in the United States by OCuSOFT and was originally developed by Santen.
