Retaron

Retaron is a dietary supplement, specifically classified as a Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP), developed for the dietary management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It is characterized by its inclusion of Aronia berry (chokeberry) extract, which provides a high concentration of anthocyanins and other polyphenols that exert potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects within the ocular tissues. In addition to Aronia extract, Retaron contains the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which accumulate in the macula to filter high-energy blue light and neutralize singlet oxygen. The formulation is further supported by essential trace elements (zinc and selenium) and vitamins (C and E) that serve as cofactors for endogenous antioxidant enzymes or directly scavenge free radicals. Together, these components aim to slow the progression of AMD by protecting retinal pigment epithelial cells and photoreceptors from oxidative stress-induced damage.
