Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Retinaldehyde + glycolic acid (also known as RALGA) is a topical combination formulation marketed under the brand name Diacneal for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and acne scarring. It combines 0.1% retinaldehyde, a natural precursor of retinoic acid that modulates keratinocyte differentiation and proliferation, with 6% glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that promotes exfoliation of corneocytes. The combination is formulated as an oil-in-water emulsion at a low pH (~3.5), where glycolic acid enhances the bioavailability and skin delivery of retinaldehyde, maximizing efficacy while minimizing the irritation typically associated with high-concentration topical retinoids.
