Overview

Retinoic acid naphthalene triazole (RANT) is a synthetic derivative of retinoic acid that incorporates both a naphthalene and a triazole moiety. It has been investigated primarily for its potential use in the treatment of recurrent malignant gliomas. The compound is designed to combine the differentiation-inducing properties of retinoic acids with possible enhanced pharmacological activity conferred by the triazole group, which may improve metabolic stability and bioactivity. Mechanistically, RANT is believed to act as an inducer of cellular differentiation, similar to other retinoids, potentially affecting gene expression through nuclear retinoic acid receptors. Clinical trials have focused on evaluating its safety and efficacy in patients with recurrent malignant gliomas[1][4]. Related research into retinoic acid-triazolyl derivatives suggests these compounds can promote neuronal differentiation and neurite outgrowth in neuroblastoma cells[6].
