Overview

Revamil is a medical-grade, standardized medicinal honey (RS honey) developed for wound care and the prevention of infections. Produced under controlled greenhouse conditions by Bfactory Health Products, it is sterilized and classified as a type IIb medical device. Its antimicrobial activity is multifaceted, resulting from a high sugar concentration (osmotic effect), the production of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), the presence of methylglyoxal (MGO) and the cationic antimicrobial peptide bee defensin-1, and a low pH. Revamil exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against drug-sensitive and drug-resistant pathogens, including MRSA, ESBL-producing E. coli, and VRE. It is primarily used for chronic and infected wounds and has been investigated for reducing skin colonization in intensive care patients to prevent catheter-related bloodstream infections.
