Revaprazan is a small molecule drug classified as a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) and reversible acid pump antagonist. It works by reversibly inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase enzyme at the potassium-binding site, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. This mechanism distinguishes it from traditional proton pump inhibitors, which act irreversibly. Revaprazan is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastritis, gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, functional dyspepsia, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In addition to its acid-suppressive effects, revaprazan has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in preclinical studies by attenuating Helicobacter pylori-induced COX-2 expression through inhibition of Akt signaling pathways. Revaprazan is approved for use in South Korea and India but not in Europe or the United States[1][5][6][7][8].
