Overview

Reverse D-4F (Rev-D4F) is a synthetic apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) mimetic peptide composed of 18 D-amino acids, including four phenylalanine residues. It is designed with a reverse sequence compared to the parent L-amino acid peptide, which allows for exact side-chain alignment and superimposability. Functionally, Rev-D4F mimics the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). It has been shown to improve endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) function and inhibit atherosclerosis by reducing endothelial inflammatory and oxidative stress. Preclinical research has also explored its potential in treating acute lung injury. The development of this peptide has primarily been conducted at academic and governmental institutions, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and the Atherosclerosis Research Center in Long Beach.
