Overview

Revexepride (SSP-002358) is a potent and selective small molecule agonist of the serotonin 4 receptor (5-HT4), developed as a prokinetic agent to stimulate gastrointestinal motility. It was designed to accelerate gastric emptying and increase lower esophageal sphincter pressure by enhancing acetylcholine release at the myenteric plexus. Revexepride was investigated for conditions such as gastroparesis and gastroesophageal reflux disease but development has been discontinued after reaching phase II clinical trials[1][2][3][7].
